Mr. Thomas Delaney is the Social Studies teacher for middle school. He received his BA in Political Science from Rutgers University and his Masters Degree in Education from American Military University. Mr. Delaney started at St. Ambrose in 2004 as a fifth grade teacher, instructing in math, science, and religion in addition to social studies. In 2011 he moved up to middle school and his current position. We utilize a variety of educational models, including the Danielson model, to align with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. The middle school Social Studies class is a student-centered learning environment. Students are given a clear set of objectives and expectations for each class as they enter. We utilize a wide variety of instructional and assessment methods, including PBLs (Project Based Learning), interactive technology, collaboration with peers, choice activities, as well as more traditional methods. Students are encouraged to engage in critical thinking and to think outside the box. In our class we also try to live the St. Ambrose mission each and every day. We guide students to make Christ-like decisions and reinforce positive decisions and behavior.
Mr. Delaney is also the Technology Coordinator for St. Ambrose, helping integrate technology across the curriculum for all grade levels. Part of these responsibilities include coordinating Powerschool, the Diocesan grading platform. In addition to his teaching duties, Mr. Delaney is involved in a number of different extracurricular activities, including the Student Council, Model United Nations, and coding club. When not at St. Ambrose, he enjoys reading, attending Rutgers Basketball and Football games, and spending time with his niece and two nephews.
